‘Tis the season for presents…..so are you being present?

This morning I got all bundled up in my long johns, ski pants and thick jacket to take my walk to the ocean. It was about 11 degrees! It felt colder than Antarctica! Such an invigorating way to start a day, I must say.

Anyway, I came upon some ice.

Have you walked on ice this season yet?

It occurred to me that the only way to walk onto a patch of ice is by totally being present. All of your attention has to go on exactly what your feet are doing. You become so aware of your body and your balance, and you just BE. Of course this is all so that you don’t fall on your arse!

I don’t know about you, but when I walk on ice I feel like a little kid. Perhaps this feeling stems from being fully in the moment. Being present fully. Fully alive.

That’s what I love about the word present!

I’ve been reading the book, A Happy Pocket Full Of Money, by David Cameron Gikandi.  It’s all about quantum physics and understanding the Laws of the Universe to create the life we desire.  In it he writes…

The present moment is the greatest gift you can have. It is perfectly created for you according to your stated designs. You state these designs by the thoughts, states of being, words, and actions that you held most true to yourself earlier. The present is something that you send yourself, a perfectly pre-sent moment. It allows you to experience, taste, review, and change your past thoughts, states of being, words and actions. Be grateful for the present, for you know you can change it, for it allows you to experience your Self, for its entire existence is to serve you.

So, as you are shopping this week for those last minute items, maybe you can think about the best gift you can truly give yourself…the gift of being present.

Coincidentally, that could very well be the best gift you give your children, your spouse, your parents, and your friends this season.
