When was the last time you thought outside the box?

Lately I’ve been wanting to start a blog entitled “Living Outside The Box”… The whole idea of creating a life outside the box is so exciting.

That’s what most of us do in network marketing and home based businesses. We work outside the box. Our schedule is outside the box. Even our thoughts are usually outside it. But how outside?

Let’s look at this concept a bit deeper.

Office-ing Outside The Box:
Right now I’m sitting on rocks by the ocean typing this blog post on my iPhone… There’s a WordPress app!

What could you do to stretch and make more exciting your work environment?

Eating Outside The Box:
Think about how you eat. Do you have cereal or eggs for breakfast, a sandwich or salad for lunch, and chicken or meat for dinner?

They say protein is best in the morning. So, what about having that chicken for breakfast? I love salmon for breakfast. And I heard that the stalks of broccoli have lots of protein, so I sometimes put broccoli in my oatmeal!

What comes up for you when you think of changing your routine? Think of how programmed we are when it comes to some things.

Marketing Outside The Box:
I just moved to Portland, Maine and would like to build up my massage business here. So, the other day I was walking past a construction site. I asked one of the workers if they’d want me to come on their lunch break and do chair massage. They all loved it and want me to come back next week.

I also noticed no one is advertising on Craigslist here anymore for massage and they are charging $10 an ad. The whole fear factor! I figured I’d try it out, and I’ve already had 5 appointments in a couple of days and 3 more booked this week already! I have only been here a week. What was that people say about the economy?

How do you market outside the box?

Living Outside The Box:
Here in Portland you’ll find lots of people living on boats moored in the bay…at least in the summer!

This idea of co-housing is becoming more and more popular with young families. And what about that place in Florida, The Villages. The idea of community living is an interesting approach of living outside the box.

What do you long for in your home environment that may be different and a bit more exciting than the “Jones’s”?

Outside Of The Box Cartoons:
My friend, Tazmine Loomans has combined her entrepreneurial spirit with her creative abilities to create some out of the box cartoons. Check them out here…TazToons
.

How do you stretch your creativity?

Outside Of The Box Towns:
Have you heard of Greensburg, Kansas? This town was wiped out by a hurricane in May of 2007. This event could either totally depress or inspire the surviving community members. This town thought outside the box and decided to rebuild the entire town “green”. This creative approach to a disaster allowed the town to get lots of money and funds because they chose a cause and a niche.

How can you contribute to your community and the world in a greater way?

Leave a comment below and share with us what you are doing to live, market, eat… outside the box. What do you want to commit to today to stretch your comfort zone?

Thanks for this post Sue, it's so easy to get caught up in our routine or habit, the old day to day, that we forget to do things to “live outside our own boxes.” You miss out on a lot of great experiences, opportunities, and varities in your life when you don't remember to do this, even in little ways it can make a big difference in your life. Great wisdom. Hope you are enjoying your new place in Maine!

Great post Sue…and thanks for the mention! 🙂 By the way, I am totally in the process of getting comfortable living out of the box, it's not easy or routine, but it's feels intentional and satisfying. Thanks for the encouragement and the support for all of us who are choosing to live outside the box.

I open up the outside box, but it seems to be connected to one of the 5 lines available for the house- what is the economic and easiest fix to this?
