Master Cleanse – Day Two

Just a quick update on day 2 of my Master Cleanse.

Today I felt a bit lower in my energy and noticed some emotions like sadness coming up.

This was interesting because often times when I’m feeling an emotion that is a bit uncomfortable I’ll reach for that comfort food.  But with this cleanse that’s not an option, so it’s a great way for me to have to actually sit with the emotion.

In the book I’m reading, The Complete Master Cleanse, he writes,

The Master Cleanse is something like a time machine, in that it takes you back in time and you re-experience old symptoms or conditions as you stir up the old toxins in your body.  These old toxins are stored because of stress.  In the same way, the Master Cleanse can free the same emotions and feelings that were left unfinished in some way.

During this Master Cleanse I’m choosing some healthier options to reach for when feeling these uncomfortable emotions:

  • Have a good cry
  • Take a nice walk in the woods
  • Sit by water
  • Do some art
  • Journal
  • Meditate
  • Massage/Reiki/Bodywork

    Hey Sue,

    I just finished a 7 day cleanse, nothing but fruit, veggies, water, and green tea. Like you, I started feeling some negative emotions (my son called it the “grumpy diet”). Interesting, I never really thought about the connection that you point out in this post.

    As I continue my cleansing process with a 2 month colon cleanse program I'll be sure to pay more attention to this connection. Thanks for helping me to see that which was not clear…..

    What I would suggest is exercise right after you start eating normal food. Start gradually and then increase it with time.

    Hi Sue. Don't mean to rain on your parade the master cleanse is a fad cleanse and its not healthy. That's why you feel crappy.

    What you want is full body cellular nutritional cleansing & REBUILDING. Thats the key; with master cleanse/juice cleanses/fad cleanses, they leave you tired, depleted, many toxins still floating around, and you loose lean muscle mass.

    That is why these cleanses are 'Catabolic' cleanses: you loose lean muscle.

    I think that the medical community is at least divided on the issue of detox diets. I believe that they are good if done for a short period of time and as we know people have been fasting for 1000’s of years.

    Hi David! I love rain! The jury's still out for me on this one. As I'm replying to this I'm on day 8 and am feeling tons better. I know my system is cleaning itself…and because of the salt water internal bath and the laxatives the toxins are definitely floating in the toilet!

    But I do enjoy cleanses such as the 21 day Standard Process cleanse that has you eat tons of veggies and fruits and supplements to support your organs.

    Has anyone tried the Master Cleanse?
    I was in India last year and my digestive system has been out of wack ever since. I don't have a parasite or infection or anything. I am hoping that doing a cleanse will let my body get back on track. If you have ever done the Master Cleans and have any information I would appreciate it!

    Hi. I was totally in the same boat when I returned from India. Actually that is what initiated my very first cleanse. I did a gentle macrobiotic cleanse. I think it was for 11 days and it totally did the trick.

    I imagine this master cleanse would work great as well, or the 21 day Standard Process cleanse.

    During the Master Cleanse the body will get rid of some nasty pollutants that are in your body and they re-circulate throught your brain before leaving the body. This can account for sadness. Also lack of stimulation from foods can cause sadness. Like if you want to fight in a match, eating a lot of meat will help you to fight like a tiger. Also eating an ice cream banana split can make you happy.

    Actually how the master cleanse works is that it gives your body a rest and a chance to heal itself. Only the body can heal itself. The secret of it is in what you are NOT eating like salt, HFCS, meat, growth hormones, pesticides, sucralose, diglycerides, anti-icing fluid (sodium benzoate), engine degreaser (phosphoric acid) and lots more. It sounds like you would not think any higher of the fast that is done with pure water.

    There is a site with quotes about fasting by 23 different medical doctors. The 3 fathers of modern medicine all used fasting– Hippocrates, Galen and Paraclsus. Dr Joel Furman (MD) has a book on fasting with testimonials by other doctors. He has fasted thousands of people. On youtube there is a video with Dr Oz introducing him to talk about diet. His book on the nutritararian diet is followed by thousands of doctors according to amazon.com.

    Many hail Jesus as their Lord and savior. He fasted for 40 days. So did Moses and Pythagoras. Abraham Lincoln declared a day of fasting. The secret of fasting is in what you are not eating. The body is given a rest and heals itself. One M.D.(Haas) has his own website and says that fasting saved his life. Alan Cott, M.D. is a psychiatrist and he has 2 books on fasting.

    “you loose lean muscle” It was probably just a typing error but in case it wasn't this is one of the most common spelling mistakes. You can find it everywhere even in newspapers. You lose weight and then have loose clothes.
