I love Thanksgiving! I love time with my family, I love eating amazing food, I love the idea of the Pilgrims and the Native Americans sharing in a meal of thanks.  And I LOVE EGG NOG!

But I really feel like I live every day as if it were thanks-giving. (Minus the egg nog!)

It hasn’t always been this way…

About 7 or 8 years ago I learned from Abraham-Hicks to say every morning upon waking,

“Today, wherever I go, whomever I’m with, whatever I’m doing, it is my dominant intention to look for reasons to feel good.”

Then when I went to bed each night I got out my journal and wrote down 5 things I was grateful for from that day.

These 2 things that took less than a minute each totally changed my daily experience. They have really changed my life.  Now I feel like I live and breath appreciation and thanks.

What about you? Do you live everyday in this state of appreciation?

If not, no worries.  It just takes some practice and muscle building…like going to the gym.  Find something that works for you.  Figure out some way to start an intention and to take note of what you are thankful for in your life.  I guarantee you will start noticing huge differences in what you are attracting into your life.

I will leave you with some quotes of appreciation…

Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. -Voltaire

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. -Albert Schweitzer

Develop an ‘attitude of gratitude.’ Say thank you to everyone you meet for everything they do for you.- Brian Tracy

There is no better opportunity to receive more than to be thankful for what you already have. Thanksgiving opens the windows of opportunity for ideas to flow you way.- Jim Rohn

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. -Melody Beattie

If the only prayer you say in your life is “thank you,” that would suffice. -Meister Eckhart

Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. -The Hausa of Nigeria

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. -Marcel Proust

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food, and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies with yourself.
-Tecumseh, Shawnee Chief

Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others. -Cicero

Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart. -Seneca

Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels. If we take the time, no matter how crazy and troubled we feel, we can find something to be thankful for. The more we seek gratitude, the more reason the angels will give us for gratitude and joy to exist in our lives. -Terry Lynn Taylor

Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul. -Henry Ward Beecher

Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life. -Christiane Northrup

Love wholeheartedly, be surprised, give thanks and praise–then you will discover the fullness of your life. -Brother David Steindl-Rast

Gratitude is the heart’s memory. -French Proverb

Gratitude is heaven itself. -William Blake

Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted–a paved road or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul. -Rabbi Harold Kushner

There is a calmness to a life lived in gratitude, a quiet joy. -Ralph H. Blum

Hi Sue! Great post! I too have become much more grateful in my everyday life. I make it a practice to write down 10 things I'm grateful for at the beginning of each day. It really puts life in perspective and it honors all the wonderful things that happen in our lives that would otherwise just escape our attention.

I like how you compared gratitude to working out. It's true. Just Like working out, you may not feel like doing it at first (being grateful), but after some repetition and practice you will start to look forward to your daily gratitude time. I am going to start writing 5 things I am grateful for each evening too.
